Poet Cecilia Son, who began her literary career in 2001 with People’s Literature and has long drawn inspiration from “the very bottom of the bottom,” has published her new poetry collection, Even After the Back View Fades Away. Having been drawn to Jeju by an abandoned house and lived there for over a decade, the poet—who renovated an old house by the Jocheon seashore to open a bookstore—explores in this collection the land and language of Jeju, memories of her mother, and the places where humble and fragile lives intertwine. While gazing deeply into the innermost depths of sorrow, she remains unbound by it, transcending even life’s meagerness and wounds with laughter and hospitality.
