Guidelines on Submission Length for the Shim Hoon Literary Award (Number of Pages for Short Stories, Novellas, and Novels Based on 200-Character Manuscript Sheets)

As we have received many inquiries regarding the length requirements (number of manuscript pages) for the Shim Hun Literary Award, we are providing the following guidelines. The length requirements for the Shim Hun Literary Award are based on 200-character manuscript pages and follow the standard criteria used by major domestic literary awards and New Year’s Literary Contests.

Shim Hun Literary Award Length Requirements (200-character manuscript sheets)

• Short Stories: 70–100 sheets per story
• Novellas: Approximately 250–300 sheets per work
• Novels: 500 sheets or more

Is it acceptable if the length is slightly more or less than the specified criteria?

A deviation of approximately 10% in either direction from each criterion will not affect the judging process. For example, short stories ranging from the mid-60s to around 110 pages can be submitted without issue, so there is no need for significant concern.

How do I check the number of manuscript pages?

In Hangul (HWP) documents, you can check the number of pages based on the 200-character manuscript standard by going to [File] → [Document Information] → [Document Statistics].
